The Reconstruction Ladder
Reconstruction is not a race, nor is it a series of boxes to check. It is a developmental journey. Each stage has an important purpose. Grief has work to do. Anger has work to do. As do fear and uncertainty and curiosity.
Trying to skip these stages, or rush through them, often leaves their work unfinished. The goal is to honor each phase of our journey, allow each season to accomplish what it was meant to accomplish, without getting stuck or allowing any one stage to become your permanent home.
The Reconstruction Ladder will be our developing guide to that journey.
It is being designed to help you recognize where you are, understand what this stage may be asking of you, and begin cultivating the capacities that will prepare you for what comes next.
You don't have to force yourself up the ladder.
But you don't have to pitch your tent on any rung, either.
This framework is still evolving as we continue our research into how people rebuild lives grounded in agency, discernment, and reality.
Explore the Ladder
We're currently building the interactive version of the Reconstruction Ladder here. Each stage will include an explanation of the work it may be doing, signs you may recognize, and small experiments for moving through it without rushing yourself. Want to help us test and refine the map?
Restoring Self-Governance
"Do the work this stage is asking of you... and when it's done, keep climbing."
